After reading this review in Macworld and other positive reviews on various websites, the company I work for purchased the LaCie 324 to replace a 20" Apple Cinema Display. After letting the monitor warm up for about an hour, I calibrated it using the newest version of Blue Eye Pro, which came with the monitor. I used our Eye-One Display 2 colorimeter by GreytagMacbeth, which worked just fine. After calibration I noticed a color shift: green on the left to red on the right. (Upon further research I found other blog posters that have also seen this shift)

* Desktop background note: the "solid gray medium" background is being used. If you have a photo or random image on your desktop, a color shift will not be easily noticeable. **
I immediately called LaCie's tech support department, as color accuracy is vitally important in my line of work, and this was just not going to fly. After troubleshooting using a different DVI cable and also attaching the monitor to a different computer - the same result was reached. LaCie deemed the monitor to be faulty and recommended that I return it for a replacement.

Having purchased the monitor from MacMall, I called them and did an exchange. Our new LaCie 324 arrived the next day. I paid close attention when booting up and noticed - on startup, even before my desktop loaded - that there was a color shift. Green on the left to red on the right. Trying to give the monitor the benefit of the doubt, I waited 2 hours before performing the calibration. Did that - no change.

I again called LaCie. This time to just tell them my findings and that I would again be returning the monitor, this time with no exchange. The rep at LaCie was very helpful and even consulted with the senior technician. Neither of them have heard of this problem before. I was also told that during my call they looked at an in-house 324 and did not notice a color shift. (I didn't think to ask if their desktop background was a neutral gray)

So, I'm not sure if this is just a random problem or not. What I do know is that a monitor that is supposedly "targeted at creative pros who demand a large color gamut and color accuracy" should not yield this type of result.
Not really. Its been reported by others over the years. The quality control here is just so-so. That's why I usually recommend users who want demanding color to stay away from LaCie who just OEM the displays from others and get an NEC SpectraView. OEM's generally get the "seconds". Keep in mind, LaCie doesn't really make anything! They simply OEM other's products.
