I agree that the Pimax Crystal Super VR’s price point definitely sets expectations high, and it’s a bit surprising that it didn’t meet the mark, especially with all the buzz around it before CES 2025. The comparison to the Meta Quest 3 makes sense, as that’s a similar price range but also caters more to casual users, whereas Pimax is aiming for something more immersive.

I’m curious about one thing though: Did you try any specific games or just the demo content? Sometimes the quality can vary depending on how it’s set up. While the Apple Vision Pro is still setting a very high bar in terms of mixed reality and overall immersion, I wonder if Pimax has potential with software updates or adjustments to their miniLED tech. It’s always a bit of a gamble when you invest early in a new product.

At that price point, though, I can see why you'd expect a much better experience. Appreciate the warning, and I’ll be keeping an eye on how the Pimax improves over time—if they do.

It was demo content but the issue was not the content. It was the low-end LCD panels with poor miniLED zone dimming. Clouding galore, no true blacks, washed out contrast etc.

I know it sounds a bit bombastic, but it’s true: LCD panels are not fit for headsets. With a display literally strapped in front of your eyes, you need high-resolution micro-OLED or even higher-resolution micro-LED (due to micro-LED's low aperture that causes a screen-door effect).
