Hi all,
I recently purchased a Samsung UE40D8005 to replace my Samsung 32". I had my sound going through the Denon receiver (AVR-1706) via a HDMI cable that was also connected to my Phillips Blu ray player. This setup worked great with my old setup and I thought I could just 'plug and play' with the new one.

The sound through the playback with BD player is ok after I figured out how to set the speakers to external but when I attempt to play any 'shared' video from my PC there is no sound coming through the receiver. The manual writes about clicking on the receiver icon in the menu settings but my is 'greyed' out!

Is my only option to use the native TV speakers for sound when playing shared media files?

Sorry for using English, please reply in Danish (I can speak and read it but writing is more like a 5 year olds)

Can anyone help? Thanks in advance,

Bobsen

You need to use your tv's optical or analogue output, if you want to play audio (media files, internet, etc.) through an external device such as the Denon receiver.

Thanks for the reply. Do I use both a HDMI cable and optical or just optical cables from the receiver to the TV?
TIA

You still need to use HDMI from receiver to tv, in order to get video from blu-ray and other devices.

The signal chain should look something like this for HDMI: blu-ray >>> receiver >>> tv, and for optical: tv >>> receiver.

Thanks so much! I understand fully now. Do you have any recommendations as to which kind/type of optical cable?

Excuse my noob-ness, and thanks again for your help.

Best Regards,
