I own it and I would buy it again.

First I want to apologize for writing in English. I know there is an English forum, but because I live in Denmark I'd much rather talk with Danes, I hope that's OK. It's "helt OK" to respond in Danish, which I read just fine.

---

My question is for anyone who owns a Philips 8008. I have been really close to buying Samsungs UE46F7005, which meets most of my needs fine.

But a few things keep drawing me back to the Philips.

1) the Ambilight – I really like it. I'm also a Philips Hue fan. So I'm all in... and have no doubt I would use this.

2) The overall design of the TV (though with a footnote!) ...and the elegance of the single remote.

3) IT*S NOT A SAMSUNG ...I have many rotten associations with their brand. It's personal I guess.

---

I've read enough to know that choosing the Phillips would mean saying goodbye to a reasonable Smart TV experience, I know. I'd also miss twin tuners, quad core snappyness, etc. And I can live with all that.

One thing I can't with would be if "normal" TV functions like recording (optagelse) are also as slow and poor performing as the rest of the Smart TV stuff is reported to be.

So that's my question basically – Smart TV aside, can you recommend this TV based on the speed and interface when using other functions – specifically the TV guide and the recording function.

Anything else you can say about your experience with this model would be helpful.

Footnote

I've been wondering if El Giganten sells a variant of the 8008 that is made a little differently. The frame seems entirely plastic and very cheap (I've seen it in peson)...wheras all the reviews I've read describe it as stainless steel, and using high quality materials.

The model I am looking at looks to be cheapest at Fona now.

http://www.flatpanels.dk/nyhed.php?suba ... 1380878372

Thanks Rasmus...I appreciate the input. Scanning through that thread just makes me want to stay away from ALL TV's. :-)

Frankly not sure how often it will necessary for me to use the twin tuners – We mostly use Apple TV for Netflix and iPad/AirPlay for streaming... my NAS also has a tuner attached, so it can record shows that are on channels that are free over the air (DR, DR2, etc)... and these are the only channels we'll have! No cable TV here.

It really boils down to the ambilight I guess... and really believing that it's something we'd enjoy.

Rasmus, I'll ask you directly as if anyone would know it would be you – have you heard about or experienced yourself that El Giganten distributes slightly different models from other suppliers... sometimes in a lower build quality, or just in some strange variant?

For example, I know that most reviewers talk about Sony's new W8 series as looking just like the W9...i.e. dark in color, thin bezel, with the strange green "kant".

Yet the W8 series for sale in El Giganten is with a pretty thick silver/metal bezel...which actually looks better to me in some ways. Still... it's completely different.

I was just wondering with regard to the 8008 as well, as the one I saw in El Giganten had a plastic front, very cheap, almost greasy looking – where most of the reviews I read praise the build quality and authentic materials (stainless steel,. etc).

Curious.

Hey, i can answer that :)

I work at Elgiganten and have the insight.

But the answer is NO... Elgiganten only sells Nordic models directly from the suppliers.

So you will only find Nordic models in Elgigante. BUT we have like ALL others do... a special model made only for us :)

Hope that answers your question.

Footnote: Smart tv is not what you want it 2 be... netflix, hbo and spotify is what you can use this for right now...

Thanks! – it does I think, if by "us" you mean Scandinavia! I will go to Fona tonight and just see if the build quality is any better. I realize how crazy that sounds. :)

And if you are at work any time soon maybe you can take a look at the 8008 and just confirm that it looks and feels like garbage. :)

Though choice!

Interesting. And I assume the difference in features can be both good or bad for the customer... depending on what they decided to add or remove.

Thanks. I totally agree the 7005 is nicer looking...I'd say it's also nicer looking than the Sony. Otherwise, as a Sony loyalist, I would have bought it. It has the best picture by far.

There are only two things keeping me from picking up the Samsung – 1) Giving up the Ambilight, 2) negative brand associations with Samsung.

Luckily the 7005 is easy to "de-brand", as it's a pretty generic looking frame if you mount it on the wall and remove the little "Samsung" doot below the screen.

Would love to hear from someone who LOVES THEIR PHILIPS 8000 series... and soon. I think I'll pull the trigger tomorrow.

Jep.

Hi trackpad. If you look carefully you'll see that you are comparing w805 with w807. And the differences are as you describe. The 805 has the green edge and the 807 is silver.

Hej trackpad
