Den nye Sonos Beam har bedre lyd samt understøttelse af Dolby Atmos og HDMI eARC – og en højere pris. Den får DTS-lydsupport senere på året.

Sonos Beam Gen 2
Anden generation af Beam erstatter første generation af den kompakte soundbar. Den har nye funktioner, som løfter lydoplevelsen på tværs af TV-, musik- og spilbrug.

Selskabet peger på en kombination af nyudviklede højttalerenheder og mere processorkraft (40% mere ift. første Beam) som forklaringen bag den "mere fordybende lydoplevelse med større dybde og klarhed" ift. forgængeren. Højttalergrillen har også fået et ansigtløft.

Beam Gen 2 har herudover nye funktioner i form af Dolby Atmos og HDMI eARC. Dolby Atmos kan give et mere fyldigt lydbillede, mens eARC åbner for forbedret lydkvalitet og bredere support af lydformater sammen med en eARC-kompatibel TV-skærm. Dette inkluderer Dolby multikanals PCM for at sikre surround sound fra spilkonsoller uden lydforsinkelse.

Beam kan stå alene som en kompakt soundbar eller udvides trådløst vha. Sonos' multirum-system, eksempelvis med en subwoofer og et par baghøjttalere.

DTS-support for første gang
For første gang åbner Sonos for DTS Digital Surround på Beam og andre S2-kompatible højttalere. DTS vil blive tilføjet med en softwareopdatering senere på året, som forklaret i artiklen nedenfor.

Sonos planlægger også at åbne for Amazon Music i tabsfri lydkvalitet og/eller Dolby Atmos på flere af S2-produkterne, herunder Beam Gen 2.

Ligesom andre Sonos-produkter, så er Beam tunet på forhånd, men den kan fintunes til brugerens omgivelser vha Trueplay-funktionen. Den kan styres med Sonos appen og TV-fjernbetjeningen. Den har desuden stemmestyring (Amazon Alexa og Google Assistant) og Apple AirPlay 2.
