Amazon opkøber filmstudiet MGM for 8,45 mia. dollars. Dermed får Amazon adgang til et stort filmkatalog med bl.a. James Bond.

MGM, eller Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, har på rygteplan været til salg i lang tid. Nu er køberen fundet i handelsgiganten Amazon, som desuden opererer egen streamingtjeneste; Amazon Prime Video.
Det 97 år gamle MGM-studie har i sit filmkatalog over 4.000 film og over 17.000 tv-programmer. Heriblandt Basic Instinct, Creed, James Bond, Legally Blonde, Robocop, Rocky, Stargate, Tomb Raider, The Magnificent Seven og The Pink Panther.

Konsolidering i branchen
Opkøbet følger kort tid efter, at Warner/HBO og Discovery meldte ud, at de fusionerer. Disney har opkøbt 21st Century Fox, herunder filmstudiet 20th Century Fox.
Overgangen til streaming har skabt nye ledere på markedet i takt med, at tjenesterne er blevet tæt på globale. Mindre spillere er blevet presset og vi ser nu en fase af konsolidering.
