Microsoft bekræfter, at Xbox Series X vil levere 12 Teraflops grafikydelse - dobbelt op i forhold til Xbox One X. Den vil også have HDMI 2.1 og være fuld bagudkompatibel med tidligere konsoller.

12 Teraflops grafikydelse

Der har floreret rygter om, at Microsoft og Sony begge sigter mod 11-12 Teraflops grafikydelse på next-gen konsoller og Microsoft bekræfter nu, at Xbox Series X vil levere 12 Teraflops. En Teraflop svarer til en billion 'floating point' beregninger per sekund og er en rimelig indikator for grafikydelse.

Det vil gøre grafikprocessoren i Xbox Series X dobbelt så kraftfuld som den i Xbox One X og næsten tre gange så kraftfuld som den i PlayStation 4 Pro. Oven i hatten har man en hurtigere CPU, hurtigere RAM, SSR, hardware-baseret raytracing mv. I samspil bør dette føre til smuk grafik og Microsoft lover da også "spil som fremstår fantastiske og som føles levende". - "We know you expect the next generation of consoles to set new standards in graphical power and processing speed, converging together in games that look incredible and feel alive. This will be defined by worlds that are visually astounding and immediately immersive, with innovative leaps in CPU, GPU and storage technology to give you frictionless access to new stories and new creators constantly," sagde Phil Spencer, chef for Xbox. Microsoft siger, at dette er en "et ægte generationsspring i processor- og grafikydelse med banebrydende teknikker, der vil resultere i højere billedfrekvens, større og mere sofistikerede spilverdener samt fordybende oplevelser ulig noget der hidtil er set indenfor konsolspil". Microsoft bekræfter også HDMI 2.1, herunder VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) og ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode). HDMI 2.1 båndbredde er påkrævet for at udsende 4K ved 120fps. Fuld bagudkompatibilitet

I samme omgang sætter Microsoft ord på bagudkompatibilitet ved at sige, at det omfatter "four generations of gaming". Det betyder konkret, at Xbox Series X vil kunne afvikle spil fra den originale Xbox, Xbox 360 samt Xbox One. - "Our commitment to compatibility means existing Xbox One games, including backward-compatible Xbox 360 and original Xbox games, look and play better than ever before. Your favorite games, including titles in Xbox Game Pass, benefit from steadier framerates, faster load times and improved resolution and visual fidelity – all with no developer work required. Your Xbox One gaming accessories also come forward with you," sagde Phil Spencer. Ydermere annoncerede selskabet 'smart delivery', som lader dig købe et spil og spille det på både Xbox One og Xbox Series X samt 'quick resume', der lader konsollen have flere spil i hukommelsen, når den er i standby. Det gør det muligt hurtigt at starte et spil op. Microsoft siger, at yderligere detaljer afsløres i de kommende måneder. Konsollen lanceres op til julesalget i år. Prisen kendes endnu ikke.
